This footage was "left on the cutting room floor." For the blooper reel.

Shaking the Rattle

Here's a video of Josie shaking her rattle while we're making dinner. We think she's right-handed!

5 months old

Josie turned 5 months this past weekend. The time is flying by... She has changed so much since she was just 1 month old!

Cousins

Josie loves hanging out with her cousin Colin. He likes to show her books and share his toys. They share a nanny, and when Josie arrives in the morning, Colin greets her by saying, "Baby... Jo-Jo!"

First Mother's Day

It was nice to be on the receiving end this Mother's Day. I have certainly learned to appreciate what it means to be a mom, and it has only just begun! We spent the day with family (3 generations of moms + 2 babies), eating good food and watching Josie roll around and stick things in her mouth.

Her new favorite thing is this gourd rattle. Yum...

Sweater Jumper

It will be a sad day when Josie grows out of this adorable sweater jumper... it's too cute!

Ready for Summer

Grandma Johnson recently mailed Josie a summer care package, complete with bathing suit, sunglasses, and kiddie pool. We've signed her up for baby swim class in August, so she's ready to go!

New Chew Toy

This video shows Josie's ability to handle things and get them into her mouth.

Master Gardener in Training

Excellent weather, time to get outside and inspect the mint for aphids! Josie enjoys grabbing things now, and she actually shredded some leaves off this mint plant. They don't go into her mouth (yet). I think she just enjoys her new-found manual dexterity.
Check out the tummy rolls breaking free over her waistband, and the wrist crease!

Dad's managing the spring/summer vegetable beds and Josie's learning the ropes! She got to check out the first peas of the season.

Rolling Over

Josie still had trouble turning herself over a few weeks ago. Something we all take for granted: it's actually hard to do when your head is huge compared to your body, and your limbs are short and stubby. Then last week she figured out that the head can work in her favor. She can toss it over her shoulder and the momentum will get her halfway there. Here's a video of her struggling with the technique (frustration!)

...then another movie of her nailing it

I would expect her to have a huge grin of satisfaction on her face, but I guess babies are too zen and they don't gloat. This evening while we were making dinner she almost did a (more difficult) back-onto-belly roll. You go girl.
