Splashing Around

Now that she can sit up on her own, Josie is enjoying splashing in the tub. And, getting everything around her wet in the process. Looks like we'll have to move her from the sink to the bathroom if we want to stay dry...

Jumping Josie

Josie's loving her new "Jump-n-Go" bouncer/jumper seat. I think I get a work out just watching her!

Playing with Grandma

Josie is having a great time this weekend playing with Grandma. They play on the floor, they play with Josie standing up, and she helps Josie sit up too. Grandma has taught Josie patty-cake and kisses. What a lucky girl!

Pool Time

We pumped up the inflatable kiddie pool for Josie's first skinny dip on this hot weekend. She stretched out, rolled, and turned in two inches of water. She could sit up in the water, with an adult's hand ready to catch any unsteady topples. She was surprised a few times when she put her head down and got a wet face. We showed her how to splash (creating a monster?) and she did her first open-palm splashing. (Just like shaking the rattle, but in a pool with no rattle.) We discovered that she preferred the pool on a slope, with a "deep end" and a dry beach opposite. We're looking forward to more unseasonably warm days in Albany. She's gaining physical ability so quickly, we can't wait to see what her next "swimming" session is like.

Starting solid food

We just introduced rice cereal to Josie's morning routine. She seems to like it, but there is certainly a learning curve when it comes to eating food, as evidenced by this photo. Yummy!

So Darn Cute!

Josie loves looking at photos of babies (including looking at "the other baby in the mirror"). We recently discovered she loves seeing photos of herself in her baby book. I guess she also can't believe how cute she is!!!

First Camping Trip

We attempted our first camping trip with Josie this weekend. We drove down to Henry Coe State Park outside of San Jose and met up with another family for a one-night trip. It was crazy hot when we arrived, but thankfully cooled down that evening. Josie got a gold star for sleeping through the night in a makeshift porta-bed/co-sleeper in the tent with us. We did a short hike through grassy fields and oak forests the next day (Dan was our flora guide), and though it was still pretty hot, she did really well. We hope this is just the first of our many outdoor adventures together!

Peek-a-boo!

Josie has learned the art of peek-a-boo! On the changing table or on the playmat, give her a cloth and she throws it over her face, pants in excitement, then pulls it off and smiles like it's the best thing in the world. At first we weren't sure, but she does it over and over again and it's definitely intentional.

Memorial Day Hike

Auntie Kathryn and Uncle Justin joined us for a Memorial Day hike on Mt. Tam in Marin. Josie had a good time checking out the wildflowers and identifying native plants with Daddy, but got tired midway through and napped while in the ergo baby carrier.

We're looking forward to the day when she's old enough to go in the new hiking backpack we bought.
