She's gaining some eyesight and can sit awake and look around for short periods of time now. She looks at light patterns. We lean in to kiss her. What a sweetie. (The first two pictures are up close and I think the wide-angle lens makes her cheeks look bigger than they really are. The third picture is from farther away with some zoom.)

Produce grown at the Albany house
Dan visited the Albany house today to do yard maintenance, and picked all this produce from the yard. Volunteer pumpkins that nobody planted, and Fuji apples from the tree we planted in late 2008 or early 2009. It's exciting that the fruit trees will be growing over the next few years and they'll have big harvests for the girls when they go back to Albany for Kindergarten.
Evie meets G'ma
G'ma Doi, Evelyn's great grandmother, got to meet her today and hold her. Evie got her middle name from G'ma's mother, Kazuko Hayashi.
Evie taking a bath
Second bath at home for Evelyn! Josie was very excited to help wash her baby sister. Afterwards, Evie's hair dried into a very fashionable do: a choppy pixie cut with highlights.
Sewing game
Josie got really interested in this sewing game. She can thread the shoelaces through these holes, and pull them out again. Her favorite toy for yesterday and today.
Evie wears the "magic pajamas"
Josie wore these striped PJs when she was first slept through the night, to give an indication of how old she was when they fit her. Evie is bigger as a newborn and she fits the "magic pajamas" right now.
Hula hoops
Dan and Josie went to a Friday night event with 5-6 food trucks lined up on the curb at Studio One Art Center in Oakland. We sat on the grass with other families and ate chicken tikka masala and mango lassi from a food truck vendor. Then Josie found this area with hula hoops available for kids. She loves hula hoops! There was music and a woman giving lessons.
Stickers on face
What better way to use out-of-date address labels than to donate them to Josie as stickers? What better way to use stickers than to put them on mommy's face? On Josie's face!
SF Zoo
The day was cool and foggy. The girls enjoyed the playground, the train, and animals. It won't be long before they are running around together at "Sarah and Kathryn's zoo." (Josie's zoo is in Oakland.) UPDATE: Josie refers to this as "the playground zoo." The Oakland zoo has no playground.
New Families Day at Josie's Preschool
Josie visited her preschool for the first time in August for a "new families preview day". She really enjoyed all the outdoor play opportunities that were set up and waiting for her. She can't wait to start at her school on Sept. 4. She met some other kids who will be in her class, and we met their parents.
We went back a couple weeks later for a classroom visit. Josie sat in on a class for about an hour. They did pretend cooking, then made real pancakes and ate them. She enjoyed interacting with the other kids.
