Budding Artist

Josie is a dedicated artist! Every chance she gets, she wants to color, draw, paint, glue- you name it. We give her plenty of opportunities and materials, but we swear that's all the influence we have. It's a lot of fun to do projects together. Maybe we should encourage her to try out accounting or HR instead... we'll have to start by explaining the concept of job stability.
Painting on her new easel.
Making "meal" collages on paper doily plates
Drawing Boppa, Cody and herself
At her activity table in the kitchen- so focused!

Playing with friend Sela in Portland

We visited Lisa's middle school friend Naomi in Portland. Her daughter Sela is six months older than Josie. The two girls played all day, often getting very competitive. They usually needed to be doing the same thing.
Waiting for lunch table at the kid-friendly Hopworks Urban Brewery.

"Let's put on our pajamas!" "Yeah!"
Watching the Oscar awards before bed. Both girls had a tantrum meltdown while being put to bed at the end of this intense day.

Josie Astronaut

We went to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland. Lisa had a conference there. After dropping off Lisa, we started our morning with coffee and muffins at Grand Central Bakery.

Dan, Josie, and Evie explored the museum. With some hesitation at first, Josie climbed into this replica of the Gemini spacecraft. Dan assured her it was just pretend. She was excited about it and drew it with crayons later at home.

In the Science Playground they had a sandbox with very fine, glittery sand. Josie and Evie both like this area the most.  Evie put her feet in.

Playing with Grandma

The girls enjoyed their brief visit with Grandma on 2/22.  We did crafts at home, then went to the lunch street-market in downtown Oakland and visited the Museum of Children's Art (MoChA) to do more crafts.  The visit was too short for Josie, who was too upset to say goodbye, and asked later why Grandma had to leave. She's looking forward to the next visit.

Evelyn six months old

Evie is starting into solid food. Rice cereal, mushed banana, now mushed yams. She gets excited and frustrated that the food is not ready yet. They she eagerly devours what's offered, as though she has been waiting months for this.

Evie is starting out in the jumper chair, with help from her big sister.

Intent focus, lots of dexterity, and sitting up pretty well too. Still hamster cheeks.

Tilden Picnic

Friday with the girls at Tilden Park's Little Farm. We like picnicking on the lawn there when the weather is sunny.

Snow trip

We took the girls to play in the snow at King's Beach, Lake Tahoe. Josie has been in the snow before, but this was her first trip when she was old enough to really play. Evie napped in the carrier.

Evie shakes the war club

This was Josie's rattle, a gift from Grandma. Howard calls it the war club. (He plays a lot of fantasy computer games)
Josie is in the background saying "I want to do it." Here is a link to Josie shaking the same rattle when she was 5 months old. Josie shakes the rattle.

3 months old

Baby Evie is already 3 months old! She's discovered her hands, is outdoing her sisters's mullet, and likes to blow raspberries.
