The girls enjoyed their brief visit with Grandma on 2/22. We did crafts at home, then went to the lunch street-market in downtown Oakland and visited the Museum of Children's Art (MoChA) to do more crafts. The visit was too short for Josie, who was too upset to say goodbye, and asked later why Grandma had to leave. She's looking forward to the next visit.

Evelyn six months old
Evie is starting into solid food. Rice cereal, mushed banana, now mushed yams. She gets excited and frustrated that the food is not ready yet. They she eagerly devours what's offered, as though she has been waiting months for this.
Evie is starting out in the jumper chair, with help from her big sister.
Intent focus, lots of dexterity, and sitting up pretty well too. Still hamster cheeks.

Tilden Picnic
Friday with the girls at Tilden Park's Little Farm. We like picnicking on the lawn there when the weather is sunny.

Snow trip
We took the girls to play in the snow at King's Beach, Lake Tahoe. Josie has been in the snow before, but this was her first trip when she was old enough to really play. Evie napped in the carrier.
Evie shakes the war club
This was Josie's rattle, a gift from Grandma. Howard calls it the war club. (He plays a lot of fantasy computer games)
Josie is in the background saying "I want to do it." Here is a link to Josie shaking the same rattle when she was 5 months old. Josie shakes the rattle.

3 months old
Baby Evie is already 3 months old! She's discovered her hands, is outdoing her sisters's mullet, and likes to blow raspberries.
Learning the Alphabet
Josie is fascinated by the alphabet and currently obsessed with practicing writing letters. We are so impressed! I think she was inspired by the Curious George alphabet story. She has the concept down, but gets frustrated when she thinks she's not getting it right. Her favorites so far are "J" (which she does upside down and backwards) and "O" (which is the same upside down and backwards... so hard to know which orientation she's intending). She's also consistently able to write C, D, E, H, I, M, P, S, T, W, and X. Again, sometimes sideways or backwards, but definitely recognizable. She likes to do the word games in her activity books, so we look for letters and words together, like in this pic.
She has also started to "read" her own books at bedtime. Pretty nonsensical most of the time- kind of like a regurgitated mix of all of the stories she's ever heard, but so cute. Here she is reading a story to Evie:

Grabbing and Cooing
Evie has started to grab things with her hands (mostly inadvertently) and she likes to have "conversations."
