More Walking Today

Here's a video of more walking this morning.

Lots of Walking Yesterday

Kathryn took this video of Josephine walking across the kitchen...some of her first real walking! You can tell from her expression that Josie is excited.

Wrestling a Bag of Diapers

I like this video showing Josephine wrestling a bag of diapers. She does her "cat pounce" move on the helpless bag, and shows how well she can stand now.  All the wrestling tires her out, and she rests for a moment on the sunlight-warmed quilt before finding another toy. A very busy girl.

Making Baby Food

Carrots, yams, and parsnips in this batch. Steamed, pureed in the blender, then frozen as serving-size portions in ice cube trays. We defrost these cubes in baby-food jars when we need them, and have meals ready to go. Eat your veggies!

Standing on Two Feet: Two Videos

Josie stands up on two feet more and more each day.  She's barely taken any steps yet; when she's standing, she likes to use her hands and wave them, or hold a toy.  Josie was attracted to this stack of carpet samples in our kitchen and she used the stack as a stage to play on. She does the "cat pounce" on her helpless octo-nip toy:
Josie sometimes likes to suck on an ice cube wrapped in a washcloth when she's feeling cranky.  Now she can stand up and wave it around:

PushToy

Josie's mastering the art of the push toy. She demonstrates her skills with this new one, courtesy of Auntie Susan. Thanks, Auntie!

Visiting Gma and Papa

We had a short visit on Saturday with G-Gma and Papa in Sacramento. Josie showed off some acrobatic moves such as downward dog on her head, and balancing on a box.

First Halloween

Josie rocked her "cave-baby" Halloween costume on Solano Ave with all the other babies and kids in the neighborhood. Dan sewed her a bodysuit (for warmth) and leopard print one-shoulder tunic. Her hair was styled in two ponytails, each with a cardboard bone. Unfortunately, we didn't get a good head-t0-toe photo, but the photos below show various aspects of her costume (the hat and socks were not part of the cave-baby theme!). The bodysuit would have also worked as a sumo wrestler... maybe next time.

Colin didn't want to wear his costume, but with his camo jacket and boots, we decided that he made a pretty good duck hunter. I included a photo of him confronting Yoda at the pumpkin patch. He doesn't yet know about the "force"!

Pointing and New Conversations

She's a very busy girl.  Just in the last few days, Josie has learned about pointing. When we point at something and talk about it, she no longer looks at the outstretched finger, but at the object. And Josephine herself has started pointing at things and telling us about them.
She points to things like: the Baby Bjorn carrier (she loves to strap-in and go for Bjorn rides), the container of Puffs finger food, photos of relatives around the house, small figurines on the mantle that are too fragile for her, but that she wants anyway, and babies and dogs on the street.  This photo shows JoJo pointing at the Puffs container (across the kitchen) because she saw it and she wants Puffs.

This has changed how she communicates too.  Josie has started speaking in phrases, usually exclamations.
JJ: Adah! Dah! (finger outstretched)
DJ: Do you want this? (points to Bjorn carrier)
JJ: Deet deet dit dit dit!

Visit from Grandma

Grandma (Carolyn) is in town and Josie has been spending lots of time visiting with her and Auntie Kathryn. We went to Kathryn and Justin's place in the city, and Josie went crazy for their dog and cat. So far, every time Grandma visits, Josie hits some major developmental milestone... will the trend continue this time? Stay tuned!

Here are a few pics from the weekend:
